2007-2017 BC Coroner’s Report

During this 10-year time period in BC:

• A total of 6001 people died by suicide:
  4518 were male; 1483 were female.
• 75% of those who died by suicide were male.
• Twice as many females attempt suicide.
• 1177 people died by suicide on Vancouver Island:
  South Island 523, Central 431, North 223.
• To compare:
  A total of 3581 people died in motor vehicle accidents (2008-2018).
  A total of 6228 people died of accidental drug overdose (2009-2019).
